About Project Respite

Hospital Built in Bihar Our aim is to work with Shechen Projects to expand the Shechen Medical Centre's activities into a bastion of health education, public health, and disease prevention.

Your donation will:

- Bring expanded free health care to an area and population that has no other recourse to medical help.

- Expand the clinic to house a DOTS center for fighting tuberculosis. This will also help to defray medical costs through the WHO program.

- Create an in-house laboratory to test and treat malaria, HIV, hepatitis, and other diseases.

- Start a family planning and safe-motherhood program.

- Introduce male and female contraception as part of a broader health program.

- Bring dignity and comfort to a forgotten people.

- Support the educational and medical initiatives of Shechen Projects.

Our Story

Project Respite began in 2007 when Meng, Google's Jolly Good Fellow (which nobody can deny), Tom McGhan, Chef Todd Koenigsberg, and Joel Finkelstein decided to work together and find a really bad situation (of which there are several in the world) and seek to make a substantial difference and importantly, foster more community that is sustainably built around giving and service (and action!). They settled on launching a fundraiser for Bihar province, to provide healthcare for one of the poorest regions in India.
