Project Respite: Healthcare for a Forgotten Region(a Shechen Project)Bihar is India's most underdeveloped, poorest, and neglected region populated by Hindus, Buddhists, and the "untouchable" caste, the poorest segment of the Indian population. The Shechen Medical Centre (and dispensary) is the only project of its kind in this area and has become essential for people from the neighboring villages. It provides free health services to a population of over 200,000 - most of whom have no other recourse for help. It has to expand to meet the growing demand. The project needs additional funding to construct a new facility to house a permanent medical clinic in Bodhgaya with a larger staff, a laboratory, and examination rooms. The new building is absolutely essential in order to initiate the WHO Program for the eradication of HIV, hepatitis B, malaria and tuberculosis. Once this program is operative, it will reduce health care costs by almost 50%! This is a critical turn of fortune for the area, and makes investment in this operation a strategic donation that will offer substantial returns. Join us in forging a stable healthcare infrastructure in and around Bodhgaya, to increase the clinic's size and capabilities, expand its mobile operations in neighboring villages, and lessen the tuberculosis crisis. Join us in building a family planning center, a women's health clinic, a health education resource to bring healing and hope where it is most desperately needed. Join us in this strategic health care initiative and become a participant in the creation of a center that will target health education (the most essential component toward sustainable regional healthcare), support women's rights and health, provide contraception and sex education, and supply the health care and security that human dignity deserves. Join us and support the Shechen Projects that bring education and medical assistance to those who have no means of help in India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet.
